Is having 4 6x9's taking power from my subbs?

ok i recently installed a new rocksfordfosgate 500/1 amp in my car hoping it would hit hard...but it doesnt. my stereo is a cheap one. its 50 watts ...suposidly. and i have it connected to my four 6x9 3way speakers. could that be the reason my amp isnt performing like it should? another thing. would an equalizer ONLY for my amp help??
