Can I increase the volume of voices on my tv without increasing the music?

I have been having some problems with my TV for some time now. I just bought a new Emerson 22 inch LCD HDTV and it's fine, but when im watching shows and movies, i have to turn it up to hear the voices well, but then the music is REALLY loud. I have comcast, so i don't know if it's the TV or comcast. Is there anything i can do to fix this? In my sound options there is an Equalizer with 5 bars that go up to 7, they are 120Hz, 500Hz, 1.5Hz, 5Hz, and 10Hz. Any ideas?
