Connecting cassette player with Ion turntable?

I have an Ion TTUSB 05XL turntable which supposedly allows you to convert cassettes as well as LPs. I can successfully convert my LPs to ITunes but I can't get the cassette section on my micro hi-fi to record as I can't hear the tune that's been recorded and the equaliser on EZ Vinyl Converter doesn't come alive when I play the cassette. I have an audio in line on the stereo and an audio in line on the turntable. I've tried connecting the audio in on the stereo to the microphone in line on my laptop. I've plugged the audio in line in to the turntable and into the laptop. I've also tried connecting the turntable and the stereo via the audio in line and not connecting to the laptop at all but nothing seems to work. I know I don't have to use the RCA plugs that come with the turntable. It's just a question of what goes where. Please help!
