Runner Bean growing, lining trenches with newspaper?

First> A spit is the depth of your spade blade.It does not matter if the paper is flat with holes or not it is just to retain water.I do this in spring just before planting beans. Out of interest you are a bit late for this year My beans are at the top of sticks in flower. Mind you! I do live on the Isle of Wight. Best of luck. Rayk
